Best Work Life Balance Tips for Medical Students

Best Work Life Balance Tips for Medical Students
Medical school might seem exciting to you in the beginning but it can become exhausting later on. In order not to get many burnouts and skip the exhaustion stage you should follow the following work-life balance tips.

But before reading the tips remember it's natural to have burnout and achieving a perfect balance is not always feasible. However, the implementation of these tips will help you maintain a healthier work-life balance as a student.

What is work-life balance?

The meaning of work-life balance is maintaining an equilibrium between professional or work-related responsibilities and personal life including family, leisure activities, and self hygiene or care. Managing and allocating required time and energy to various aspects of professional and personal life is also considered a part of work-life balance. Work-life balance varies from person to person and may involve different strategies based on daily circumstances and goals.

Now, let's jump right into the best tips on how to maintain a healthy work-life balance!

TIP # 01:  Prioritize Health Over Work:

Taking care of physical, emotional, and mental well-being is important for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. You can for instance get enough sleep, eat healthy meals, exercise regularly, drink more water, and do activities you enjoy.

TIP # 02:  Set Realistic Goals:

For a student, work-life means study-life. Setting realistic goals means setting clear and achievable goals for your studies and also for your personal life. You can break large goals into smaller day-to-day tasks which can help you avoid overwhelming.

TIP # 03:  Plan and Schedule Your Day:

Planning your day a night before the next day can help you stay relaxed and up-to-date with your work and life activities. Here the to-do list can come in handy but you can also use digital planners. Use these tools to organize your tasks, assignments, study sessions, and personal life activities like going to the gym or watching a movie on the weekend night. Stick to your schedule as much as possible to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

TIP # 04:  Schedule Your Priorities:

Making a schedule may seem an easy task but actually, it's not that easy. I once read a quote regarding work-life balance which is:

"Don't prioritize your schedule, schedule your priorities!"

I don't remember the author but it is one of the most important work-life balance quotes. If you scheduled your priorities you are not even one step away from success.

TIP # 05:  Learn to say NO:

Many times it happens that we have much on our plate and we continue to take more and more which leads to severe burnout. It is important to reorganize your limitations and avoid over-committing. Be selective about all the activities other than your priorities like a part-time job, extracurricular activities, etc.

TIP # 06:  Outsourcing:

If you have a lot to do you can ask for help from others (they can be your family, friends, teachers, or colleagues). This will help you complete many of your tasks in less time.

TIP # 07:  Take Breaks:

Allow yourself to take breaks between your tasks like study sessions to avoid burnout and maintain focus. Short breaks can boost your productivity and recharge your energy. You can do some relaxation techniques during your breaks like taking deep breaths for 5 mins.

TIP # 08:  Establish Boundaries:

Create boundaries between your study time or work time and personal time. Avoid studying or working during your leisure activities. Separation can help you in the mental switching of tasks.

Finding a perfect work-life balance is not possible but a healthy balance is possible. I wish you the best of luck in maintaining a healthy balance in your professional and personal life. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

How To Stay Motivated As A Medical Student

Staying motivated being a medical student seems hard but it isn't, believe me. I am a medical student and I know, how it feels when you do not want to study or prepare for a test.  I have gathered a few tips that can help you stay motivated in medical school. Let's have a look. 1. Take Breaks Between Your Study Hours: When you study for long hours and at the same place, you feel bored and irritated, I feel that too. Now, you need to make some simple changes. First, list down everything you need to do then assign time limits to each. Take breaks between every task that you have listed. This will help your brain to absorb different things. You can do anything you like during your break like; going on a walk with your pet, eating your favorite food, watching a movie, or gossiping with your friend.  2. Do Physical Workout: Any type of physical activity will boost your mood and will increase your focus. Doing that at home or at the gym doesn't matter, the thing that matters ...
